Indian Navy's Western Naval Command to conduct 'Sea Vigil-24' from Nov 20-21

MUMBAI: The Indian Navy's Western Naval Command (WNC) will conduct 'Sea Vigil-24', a coastal security preparedness exercise from November 20 to 21. The initiative aims to enhance protection of vital coastal assets including ports, oil rigs, single-point moorings, cable landing points, and essential coastal infrastructure.
WNC Commodore M Mahesh explained that this exercise evaluates coastal security readiness and involves coordination among six ministries and 21 organisations and agencies. "The exercise will be conducted simultaneously across the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and the Union Territory of Daman & Diu," said Commodore Mahesh.
The operation consists of two distinct phases. "In the first phase I, independent teams constituted from various security agencies will visit various coastal facilities to evaluate the security organisation and infrastructure. This will be undertaken over a period of one week. Phase 2 will be the tactical phase which will be undertaken simultaneously in all locations to guage the preparedness of security agencies and their collaborative response to thwart attacks from the sea," said the commodore.
The exercise will thoroughly assess security readiness across 2700 kilometres of coastline and 9000 square kilometres of offshore oil fields under WNC jurisdiction during a 36-hour period in Phase 2. Following the exercise, all participating agencies will conduct a comprehensive analysis to identify gaps and determine necessary improvements to strengthen the nation's coastal defence system.
